It is time! For COMMENTS OF THE WEEK! Yes, they are late again, I am sorry. And also, have announcements. Which you will read, right after these COMMENTS OF THE WEEK:

s. captures the strange loop that is the World Wide Interblogs, on Sexist Beatdown: How DoubleX is Hurting Basically Everything Ever Edition:
If I comment on a post about how comments have changed the form of blogs and made awful things like DoubleX, does that mean I'm officially in internet hell?
Harriet Jacobs weighs in with a truly epic story (and hilarious one-act play!) which I am obligated to quote in its entirety, on Who Takes Responsibility for the Responsibility-Takers?:

This kind of logic is SO FASCINATING.

I have a story.

Once upon a time, I left my abusive husband. He wasn't pleased.

At one point, lacking friends who were willing to help me out here because "choosing sides" and "not my problem" and "really awkward", I had to go give my ex some of his stuff.

He owed me money, and when I dropped off his stuff, I waited an extra second or two to see if he'd give it to me. I could tell he was waiting an extra second or two to see if I'd ask. And since I knew his entire purpose here was to drag things out, I decided, fuck it, I don't need money bad enough.

Later he discovered an UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT of things I had unfairly taken when they were not mine, such as spatulas, and crockpots my grandmother gave me for my birthday, and I really ought to return those things or I would be all kinds of mean bitch. I told him I would return his spatula when he paid me what he owed me. He said he wasn't going to pay me, because I NEVER ASKED, which is what GROWN-UPS DO. I said paying back debts without a pretty please is something grown-ups do. We ended our conversation, and the last words we ever spoke to each other, with, "I'll give you your money when you can be ENOUGH OF AN ADULT to actually GROW UP AND ASK me. So go ahead. Act like an adult, and ASK ME FOR THE MONEY I OWE YOU."

Hey there I have been wronged.
YOU ARE WRONG FOR NOT *NOT* BEING WRONGED
I, uh, what?
WHY DON'T YOU STOP BEING WRONGED
Gosh, that'd be nice.
MAYBE ONCE YOU STOP BEING WRONGED YOU WILL NOT BE THE KIND OF PERSON WHO IS WRONGED ANYMORE
I guess that's a superficial sort of sense...
YOU HAVE MY SPATULA
And, finally, a mysterious person or persons known only as Bad Editor weighs in on IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: I WROTE A STAR TREK PIECE GO LOOK AT IT, with this shocking confession:
Now everyone has stopped reading these comments I can cowardly-confess the Josh Weedon misspelling thing was my fault. Sorry Sady.
Ha ha, that's OK, Bad Editor! I don't think too many people are into this Jodge Whebron person! Anyway, your secret is safe with me. Which brings us to

THESE VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. As some of you may know, Jauze Weevil's important teledrama, The Doll's House, is returning to TV! Do you know what this means? It means, my friends, that I am going to try to provide weekly recaps of it. Not that I expect them to be well-read: this Jose Weezer guy is not very popular among feminists, or people who read the Internet.

2. I am moving this week! Well, sort of. Someone is moving into the apartment I have now. Which necessitates moving things around, and putting furniture together, and doing all sorts of non-blog related things! So if I don't reply to your e-mail, or post many things, I hope you will forgive me. I must focus on attaining perfect Feng Shui! Or, like, furniture that is put together! That last one is more likely.

  1. OH THIS NEWS ABOUT JOBS WINDIN THRILLS ME TO NO END. not about the renewal, though of course i immediately posted about it in unnecessarily large text the moment i heard. but i've been rolling my eyes and pointing people to your last dollhouse post whenever i can't take the bitching about how DOLLHOUSE IS SO MYSOGINIST OMG!!1 (apparently an audience must be explicitly told something is bad&wrong, or it must be condoning what it portrays. SUBTEXT IS FOR RAPISTS— wait).

  2. Good luck with your boyfriend moving in with you thing. It is your boyfriend, right? Didn't you say that at some point?

Also, can't wait for new Dollhouse episodes and your Dollhouse posts! Wooohoo!

  3. Weekly Dollhouse recaps! It's like you read my mind! Possibly with a creepy computer chair.

  4. Your blog were the very second thing I thought of when I read the announcement.

The very first thing I thought upon reading was "Woo-hoo!", once I read the line where the Fox executive atributed the decision to pressure from Whedon's fans. Not pressure they were already getting, but pressure they would get, if they cancelled it. Since I am one of those fans, I feel a special sense of triumph in this.

And the fact that you are going to do weekly recaps, is total WIN! I thought about doing some on the blog I usually post at, but your writing is 1000 times better than mine, so Woo-hoo! again!

  5. I'd given up on television ever offering anything other than cattle-call-style "reality" shows and GGW commercials, so when I read your original Dollhouse post I had to mark the air time in my calendar so it will pop up on my cell phone and clunk me on the head when it's time to watch it. I'm still not sure what I think of Dollhouse yet, but I'm giving it a shot based on your review, Sady, so that's probably what saved it from cancellation.
Also, Mad Men. I've finally seen a couple eps of this and I like it. I'm actually kind of bummed I've ignored it for so long. I'm curious what your thoughts are on it.

  6. Oh, speaking of TV, I watched the pilot for this new musical comedy show, Glee, on Hulu today, and I was pretty appalled. It was like, "Men are always trying to do good in the world and their manipulative bitch wives try to stop them and spend all their money in the process! Also, we can have fatties and women of color and gay guys and people with disabilities on the show, but the characters who really pull them all together and keep the group from just being a bunch of losers must both be straight, white, cisgender, muscular, manly manly men! Men always save the day in the end."

I do love a good musical number, though. And that one lady is pretty funny.

  7. I love Jozh Weedin'; I found your blog from that post. I for one, welcome, our new Sady overlord (there someone had to say it).
By the way, the puppy on your Look At What The Internet Gave Me window has cute eyes and an erection.

  8. @ Jeeps

I understand (and even feel) your annoyance with the across-the-board condemnation of Dollhouse, but while the show itself may have some nuance and depth, the title sequence makes me so stabby that I almost can't watch the show. It's so full of hooker-y tropes and bedroom eyes. Just ugh.

The other perennial issue I have is the constant and rather casual reminder of Sierra's rape(s) in flashbacks and such. It's obviously condemned, even by the bad guys, yet we KEEP watching that flashback again and again. That, to me, goes back to cinematic rape being exploitative and titillating, even as it's supposed to be BAD.

  9. I heard a rumor that Jus' Wheezin' got another season on the show.

  10. @Chex: Yep, that's the dude.

@Snobographer: Oh! Mad Men! I'm so excited for the next season. I described it to a friend of mine as "Feminine Mystique: The TV Show." It's really useful, in that it shows you how you can present misogyny in film and COMMENT on it, rather than simply perpetuating it. And it's got this whole performative-masculinity, patriarchy-is-bad-for-everyone thread that I really like, what with all the dudes trying to live up to this incredibly limiting model of what a "man" is or ought to be, and kind of hating it.

@Jeeps & JustReading: I can kind of see where both of you are coming from with this. I've been going back & forth through e-mail about this a lot: Dollhouse does tend to undermine or blunt its critique at certain moments, although I'm so sure (given "Briar Rose" and everything else) that the critique is there. It'll be interesting to see where they go with it next season.

    @Raddad: Um, WHOOPS?

@Everyone: I don't know who this Jus' Wheezin guy is. Jobs Weeblo, however, is one of my favorite directors! HOUSE DOLLS is shaping up to be something great.
